I am wanting to get different gears for my mini truck. Currently im running 4.10s but thats for a track that is less than 1/4 mile. I will be running a 3/8 mile track this summer and want to change out my gears for then. I dont know if my trans is a ford 8 or 8.8 inch, the casting numbers say C70W 4025-A. any help would be appreciated. I am thinking about finding some 3.80 gears but im open to any recommendations. Also where is the best place to get gears? Im kinda on a budget.

an 8" will drop out the front like a 9"...an 8.8" will have a cover on the back...if its an 8" i have almost brand new Richmond 3.80 ring and pinion i am selling for cheap.

if it is 8.8" i also have 3.73 ring and pinion

ok then its definitely an 8. too bad you live in idaho, im over here west in california. what cars or trucks had an 8 inch? im wanting to just get another whole pumpkin so i can switch real fast between my two sets of gears.

falcon,some pinto's,sometimes a Mustang II,comet...if you dont mind paying for shipping i can set you up with an assembled ready to drop in 3rd member complete with mini spool and 3.80 gears...but i think shipping something like that would be $60-$80 alone

how much would you sell that 3rd member piece for with the 3.8 gears?

ryan, make sure you have a ford rear. a lot of guys that run couriers run toyota rears. they are available in 5 or six lug and look a lot like a ford 8in.

Im pretty sure its a ford 8, those casting numbers said a 67 torino.

my bad ryan, i forgot you had a ford number. i think clinton said he had a pinto trans in your truck. that could give you some different gear combos for running at different tracks. what 3/8 track you thinking of running at?

chico's a 1/4 on the inside. antioch says it's a 1/4 but have never seen it. if you're geared good for mrp you might be ok at chico. if you're geared for orland then you're too low for chico. going up a tire size may be all you need for chico.

Have raced chico mrp orland and antioch. Orland and mrp seem to be fine with my current 4:11s but antioch and chico put me in the mid 7000s.... and i have a stock lower end.

Is everybody replacing the carrier and pinion bearings everytime they put a different size gear in? Also what about the pinion nut? Just wondering if you can successfully use known good used bearings when changing gears. Also what backlash is a good set up for racing?
