escort 16 valve motor

looking at buying a escort for a front wheel drive class. I've been out of racing for a while and drove mustangs in the past..
what's out there for performance parts for this motor. only rule is must be stock appearing, and street tires..
or should I be looking at other cars, Honda and neon leading this year.. escort is 3rd.. any thoughts would be helpful.
