2.3 crank in a 2.5 block

If you wanted to run a 2.3 crank in a 2.5 block what would be the benefit? Other than crank trigger? Is there anything you would need to do? Are the 2.5 blocks bigger bore, taller deck or anything like that a long with a larger stroke?
Reason I'm asking is a guy at our track says he did just that? Our rules were lb per CC. So as we all think, he is just saying that so he can get away with running a 2.5 or the 2.8 stroker.

Go talk to your tech guy and lodge a protest. Have tech measure the stroke on the engine. Not hard to do.

since the 2.5 block has an external oil pump, i wouldnt think it would be suitable for racing...i would say he is running a 2.5
