Fuel cell foam

Do you really need fuel cell foam? Thanks in advance

It helps keep the fuel from moving and creating "swing weight". OK with gas, but alcohol deteriorates it.

I used to run it when I had a 32 gal cell and kept it 1/2 full for setup purposes. Now I run a 16 gal cell with no foam and fill it before the main.

We switched to Wiffle balls packed in tight, no slosh, no deterioration, and they are full of holes to let fuel travel through them slowly

I used pvc pipe. All different sizes standing upright. Drilled a bunch of holes, v notched the bottom's and cleaned'em with brake clean... I've heard of the wiffle balls before but they can get pricey for a 32 gal cell.. They have alky friendly foam but it was like $240 for a 32 gal can... I know alot of people don't use anything, anymore...

Yup it works great. If you are in a farming community, you can also use field tile. Drill holes in it and notch the bottoms as well. Our first Mod had that set up

This may seem like a silly question or maybe i just havent realized the obvious answer. Fuel cell with foam in it. How can you tell how much fuel is in the cell? I open my cap and it has the rubber part that angles down towards the back and then the foam. Cant really see in it at all. On the outside of the cell is the vent and then the fuel line.

The foam is in sticks Andy, you can usually find a gap in the foam to stick a dowel rod down into. I have a dowel rod that I marked in 5 gal increments.
