Several brands throw sparks, Wolfpack pads, PFC, DTC 30's and others.

Typically the pad is what they call a low heat high torque pad. Meaning it grabs hard when cold and doesn't wear on the rotors as bad as a harder pad compound. That being said the sparks is the pad material burning away.

Point of a high torque pad is to use it to better control your car under deceleration. The idea behind it is you can use less pedal pressure and turn the car with the brakes or dial more front brake into the car and use it to drop the nose when needed.

Not for every driver and if you get aggressive on the brakes it can shut the engine off on entry. (more so in a crate application).
