How difficult would it be to build a car that is both legal and competitive in IMCA and UMP racing? I realize an engine change going from IMCA to UMP would most likely be required to be competitive in tha respect. How about the rest of the car, body, suspension, etc? Would it even be feasible to take an IMCA car to an UMP event and just slap a hoss motor in it? We have 602 Mod class in my area where you can run either style car as long as you have a crate 602 in it but if I were able to get into the class I would want to be able to run IMCA events and UMP events too.

An IMCA legal mod will fit into other sanctions rules without any problems, but will most likely require a tire change. As far as just adding a bigger motor goes, you’re looking at several suspension changes as well as driving style changes. Different pullbars, shocks, and springs. A 350 hp engine acts and drives completely different than a 700+ hp engine does. In IMCA the 602 is not considered a crate for them mods and does not allow the spoiler.
So it all boils down to how much you are willing to work/spend and retrain your driving habits.Bill W. and Dr. Bob......who could have known.

Thanks for the feedback. I did assume a certain number of setup changes would have to be implemented as well. I just wondered how feasible it is that one could be competitive with an IMCA style car with a big engine and competing against UMP cars. IF I ever get to race again, I'd like to be able to buy an IMCA style car, have a 602 for racing locally, a 604 or whatever you can run in IMCA/A Mods for running some of those shows, and a UMP motor. That's basically a pipe dream though. I just like thinking about it, lol.Originally posted by Confused?
