Spring rate question help me out

I have a 14in 175# spring. Its an old spring put it on the car and it compressing almost 4in on the car. When car is at ride height it is 10in tall. Is this right or is this spring wore slap out.

let's see here its a 175x4=700 on the spring depending on weight of car thats ok but I personally try to check rate and change out my springs every 2 seasons or so depending on usage and condition.

back in the 90's... I ran an old harris mod... all the springs were old.... but we had a spring checker at work... and they all checked out within 4 to 5 pounds of spec compressed 1 inch.... now the free height lost a little.... 1/8 to 3/16'.... so measure the free standing height to see if they are ok.... if they loose 1/2 inch... I would toss them....

I guess it really depends on your budget and how bad you want to race!! If the money is tight... spend it somewhere else.....

He said free standing height, not compressed height.

175# spring means it takes 175# to compress the spring 1 inch. That means if it is compressed 4 inches you have approx. 700 pounds on it.
