Do I have to use a sixth coil?

I have a 07 pierce that has the sixth coil arm and spring but I am wondering if I have to use it. Can I not just use a 90/10 shock and the pull bar? Please explain the pros and cons thanks.

you can but most that I've seen end up putting it back on with a solid chain,
