tube upper a arms

Just wondering , is there a reason for running offset upper a arms versus the centered strut style. My car currently has the strut style but ones bent. A friend has the exact same car, same year and all, and his has the offset style. Any thoughts or advice?

If both of you have the exact same car then one of them's from geomotry is way out of whack!! Call the builder of the chassis and find out which one to use.
