    ignition box

looking for ignition for a mod was wondering if i would be better off with a msd 6al or msd 7al-2 as i have found a few almost cheaper than the 6al. any thought would be appreciated. is it overkill or is 6al plenty?

I would stay with the MSD 6AL, I sell it for $210. The 7AL-2 is a two step system for drag racing and the cost is twice as much. I also have a digital 6AL with high vibration coil both used in my personal mod for 15 races if you are interested.

If your after just average performance then Yes, stay with a MSD 6al but get yourself the right coil Autozone C-839 or Carquest FD 478. By moving up to the MSD 7al2 you have 1/3 more energy output and the box is faster triggering than the MSD 6al. If your looking for stealth & leave nothing on the table take a look at the MSD 6632 box & MSD 8250 coil, This combo has the foot print of the MSD 6al with the output of the 7al2 box. These boxes are used by the Nascar kids, we have been switching over customers for the past 3 years from the MSD 6al setup with very good results. A setup we have load tested and checked out runs $375 which includes a standard ride. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
