motor help?

i know where a realy good deal is on a motor was wondering if anyone could give me some thoughts on running it in a mod. this is all i know about it

377 steel crank x roded 7 quart pan cyloes double roller 500-515 solid cam trw 150 dome pistions clevite 77h race bearings alumin water pump double hump heads studs been pined victor intake with water bypass

its at a really really good price and wont last long. any help would be appreciated

What kind of track would you plan on running with it? How good of price. I think you could build it for around $3000 depending on how good of a crank you want.

mainly florence speedway. and under 1000 on price.

It would get you started, I think Florence has some guys with some big motors.

That would be wasted money. Florence takes a lot of RPMs . That motor wouldn't have much over 400 hp and you need 600 minimum to even start to be competitive there.You cant run cheap motors at Florence, they wont stay together. You could run at Liberty, In or Richmond,ky with that on slick nights, but you will get run over with it at Florence. Take my advice and plan on spending about ten times that or more to get a motor that will run and stay together. Spending much less than that will get you a few nights at a time, and wore out motor mount bolts from pulling motors all the time

A 377 with good stuff in it can be an effective motor (even if slightly less than 600 hp). I've had great finishes with one, personally. HOWEVER, the heads on this motor won't get it done. You would need at least 215 runners and a better set of rods for it to be useful and stay together at Florence. It might be useful on a stop-n-go 1/4 mile, like Jackson, Moler, or MontPilier, etc. But from what you've described, it's not enough for Florence.

I agree with Stock car driver about engines on the IMCA tire, but Florence runs on UMP tires and 5"spoilers, no tail panel and somewhat outlaw bodies. I don't think a 604 would be competitive. I wish these tracks in our area would wise up, bite the bullet and go to the KK704 tire or similar so we could be competitive with a 604 or a 500hp motor. It would really help the car counts.

Well said. That was the original point of an eight inch tire rule when this class started. If you can't hook up 500 hp, what's the use of spending money on 600 or 700 hp?
