    need help with gearing after engine swap

    i was runing 1/2 mile with a 358engine with brinn trans 9inch rear with 550 gear and was turning right at 7000rpm with 27.5 american racers. blew engine now here are my plans for a quick fix now that i dont have a high rev engine. the engine im putting in the car to finish out the year is a blue print 396 SBC stroker dyno sheet says 508hp 450 lb torque at 5800rpm so i dont want the rev any more than 6000rpm top's i have a 486 gear ready to put in the houseing will this get me to where i need to be or will i need to buy a difrent gear thanks need feed back quick so i can get this car ready for friday night please feel free to tex me or even call anytime with help at 814-494-5444 cause im not on the computer much always turning wrenches thank you all

    4.86 will get you to about 6175 rpm. Something around 4.70 will be right at 6000. That motor should be alright at 6175 rpm...reliability-wise. It might be nosed over a little too much at 6175. Depends on carb, exhaust, cam, etc...
