Bert trans to Bell bolt size

I keep losing bolts from the trans to the bellhousing. I use short Chevy head bolts (7/16 - 14 threads) but they seem just a little loose in the hole. I put Locktite on them but I still lose about one per race.

Is this a metric bolt or some such? The 7/16 just seems a little loose, but a 1/2 bolt won't go in there.

should be a 1/2-13 bolt. about 2-2.5" long
I think there should be lifeguards in the genepool.

thx...I may just take the tranny out and see if maybe the threads need chasing out. I can't get a 1/2 to start in the hole with the tranny in the car.
