Im asking for troubleshooting help with an engine that the second its under a load after pulled into high gear starts popping and banging at full throttle and doesnt quit. At idle motor doesnt skip a beat, revs up and immediately back to idle no problem. Its a 358 steel bowtie head, roller. Valves are at 18 n 20 spec to cam, 750 BG 76 jets square no power valves, brand new wiring, battery, 50k volt coil and module in HEI, new 135's gapped at .035 and timing at 34*. Any help would be great. Thanks

Rev limiter? I'm a chassis and suspension specialist and let the engine shop handle all of those issues. As a certified automotive technician, I would start my diagnosis at the ignition system.Find me on Facebook: Impetus Dirt Racing Technologies

I assume your running gas with that jetting? 76 jets with no power valves sounds kinda lean to me. Im thinking 76 jets would be close with a power valve. May not be your issue but I would look into that.

that's right. Id test or replace the plug wires and cap/rotor first. All that spark energy really wants to get back to the - side of the battery and if it can't get jump the plug gap to get there due to lean mixtures, compression, loads etc... it'll find all kinds of ways to get there including right through wire and into another wire messing up the timing and creating all kinds of banging, popping, sneezing.Originally posted by Anonymous24 View PostRev limiter?
