Rear end axle seals - what is your opinion?

A few of my friends and I have been debating: run inner axle seals (pack the hub bearings) or no axle seals and let the gear oil lube them.

I've had leaky rear ends so in past rear ends I've had the seals and I packed the bearings. I have a new rear end and it doesn't have inner seals.

I always liked the inner seals, less mess during maintenance or repair, a little less weight and waste due too less gear oil.
