Just curious what everyone is running for a battery? I am new to 602 crate Dirt Mods and wanted to get opinions on the best battery to use. 602 comes with the HEI and will use that for now then go to MSD when my money tree in the backyard starts producing. Thanks in advance.

For batteries, yellow or red top Optimas work good or Total Power 1200 or 1500 are good for use with no alternator just charge between races or as needed.Comment

I switched from Optima red to yellow. The red drained to quickly. I'm happy with the yellow, doesnt drain as quick, but its heavier than the red, must have more plates or something in it for that reason.

Red tops are made for passenger cars with alternator. Yellow tops are more of a deep cycle like a Blue top. Have had good luck with the O-Reilly knock off brand Gel Cell batteries. Had two years on mine and just tested it and it's still good. So back in the car it went.Comment

The optima yellow top is the correct battery to use for a racecar with no alternator. Its designed for starting and is capable of deep cycle loads. The red top is for applications where an alternator charges the battery right back up after start up.
I'm going on 4yrs now on my Optima yellow top in my late model. I keep it on a battery tender during the week.
I was told a while back that Johnson Controls bought Optima and the quality is not the same.Comment

Johnson controls owns optima.
They make a yellow top without both top and side post, just has the top. It is on their website if I remember correctly and is a handful of pounds less.Comment

blue is made for severe duty use like we put them thru. bouncing around and such.
there are blue deep cell and blue starting batterys..Comment
