ford 9 inch gear problem

anyone ever seen a gear break on the casing right behind the pinion plate. wondering if
we had a weak casing or another problem. We inspected the gear before we put it in and everything was fine.

ARE YOU SAYING THE PINION GEAR SHAFT BROKE OR THE CASE IT'S SELF? I have seen a pinion gear shaft break very rare it was a junk pre gear.

bolts to long and bottoming out on the J bar plate

No bolts arnt too long. The pinion gear didn't break it was still bolted to the driveshaft it just exploded out of the side of the case. As far as the ring and pinion go there still good. Just a big hole in side of case.

oem case is how many years old?

I sell 100 gears a year on average and have had 3 case failures since I started selling them in 2005, one of the failures was mine, a cracked carrier brg cap.
