I am not a motor man, so don't laugh at this. What comes with a short block price. Not sure what more I have to add to price. $2400 for short block which includes brand new block and all inners. How much can be taken off my old motor and how much new items do I need to buy.

Sky is the limit. I would say atleast another $2000 if you do not have heads, oil pan, water pump, carb.

Rule of thumb is a short block is the rotating assembly and the block. Some have the cams, some don't. You will need everything else including the oil pump.

To make the bottom end complete you usually need
Oil pump and pickup
oil pump shaft
cam
timing set
timing cover
oil pan
gaskets
balancer
