Type of tubing?

Guys I am looking to replace a few bars on my car and kinda had a dumb question. What type of tubing is normally used on race cars? I have been given options like EWR, DOM, etc. Basically the way the pipe has been made. Didn't know if it was common to use a specific type.

Depends on what bars you need to replace, most cages are made from .095 tubing, have seen .125 but thats some heavy pipe IMO! I reccomend 'sleeving' at the points on the car you cut out & replace, just to add a little strength to those areas. JMO.

DOM for the most parts, unless its a chromoly cage.

DOM is nice and maintains a more strict wall thickness tolerance, but EW is more cost effective (about half the cost) and does the job well. Most mods are made of EW, some use DOM for the main cage. Many will use .083 to .095 tubing in the cars, but most sanctioning bodies a minimum .095 main cage.

The best thing to do is cut the bar off that has to be replaced. look inside of the bar for an electro weld seem.
you can mix and match tubing with no problem.
ew tubing is slightly lighter but not as strong.
dom is more rigid than ew but not quite as rigid as chromemolly.
alot of chassis is main cage and hallow = dom then the rest ew.
