    Glowing headers?

I've always thought red hot headers was a rich condition and fuel burning in the tubes, but several people said it's a lean condition, first time running the car and motor, and about 5 lips into the feature it started popping on throttle I'm thinking the distributor went bad and caused both issues?

It's usually rich or timing too slow.

could be carb to lean , but from what you said about popping on gas , my guess is timing is advancing to much , dont use a dial type timing light to check total advancement , use an old style strobe timing light and mark your balancer , I hurt an engine a long time ago with a dial type timing light.....

I'm using a digital timing light, didn't do it in Hot laps heat race or dash, carb has been the same setup on a few motors and no issues, I'm thinking the distributoris going bad, been sitting for 15 years or so lol, and found a burnt plug wire, I'll swap distributors and check valve lash and double check that tdc is where the mark says it is

Could be that plug wire with the burn on it jumping across to header or to motor.

Will that cause it to pop?
