What are you calling dark smoke? Are you sure its oil? There is a good chance if its dark smoke you are supper rich and what you think is oil is actually fuel mixing with soot.

Did you have a leak at the valve cover dripping into the hedder? With thoes kind of hp numbers, the rings should have seated on the dyno. Sometime on a dyno pull the operator will run the engine on the verge of melt down to achieve high numbers. With alot of heat in the combustion chamber and low tension rings its possible to lose oil control or a good ring to wall contact (good seal). Do a compression test on that bank.
It could also be a crack in the intake manifold.

I am betting it was not dynoed since he said he wanted to brake it in. Any dyno worth z crap will do that on a new motor before making a pull.

Sounds like it is a new build and not ran very long with low tension rings. The rings have not seated yet.
Fire it up and run it in. Let it get some heat into it and it should be ok. This is why it is so nice to run them in on a dyno, so you can load the engine and break it in correctly.
