oil pressure bypass switch question

we have a low oil pressure ignition cutoff switch installed and also a bypass toggle switch to fire the car after it is hot....... problem is our toggle switch seem to keep failing and then we cant fire the car and have to be pushed started

is there a minimal amperage rating needed for this toggle switch to bypass the oil cutout switch?

we get about 3-4 nights out of a switch and then they are junk and also we use the momentary on type toggle

Are you using a weather proof sealed switch or just one from the auto parts store?

How many amps are the switches rated for? How many amps is your ignition system pulling? And as mentioned are they sealed?

we use a 15 amp longacre sealed switch......is the 15 amp the problem...thats what we where told to install.......thanks again guys

How do you have it wired up? I have seen someone wire the coil + wire through the PS from the MSD box and it would kill them in no time.

It depends if it opens the circuit or shorts it. I am assuming it opens the circuit to kill the engine. I find NO refference at all to it on Longacres site (only warning light senders) and you are using a momentary switch to bypass it. IF you are shorting it across the unit to start it I would put the switch across the terminals of the pressure switch. I would also switch the power wire of the MSD (typically small red wire to labled to the ignition/key switch). This would kill it the same way flipping the switch off does.
Wiring it into the (Orange if I remember correctly) coil wire can cause the ignition to hit the switch with a HUGE voltage spikes and it will burn up the contacts. I am really supprised that the PS is not dead also.
