I have always used Cloyes double row timing sets,I am putting another engine together and am wondering if a gear drive has any benefits? Do you need the bronze gear? Are they good for flat tappet and roller cams? Thanks for any responses,Eddie

We have a Wesmar/Shaver gear drive in our DLM engine. A lot of Sprint Car and DLM engine builders use them. It is the strength and reliability that helps make the decision...They aren't cheap...Somewhere in the $575 range I think...Doesn't matter if you have a roller or not and I think you are confusing a bronze gear on the distributor if you have a steel billet roller vs. a flat tappet camshaft
