2nd or 3rd

I have a 3 speed transmission and I've been told there's more stress on the transmission using 2nd so I should change the rear gear to run in 3rd. Now I'm running in 2nd (1.68) with 4.11 in the rear. Broke four trans is two years. Any thoughts?

Correct gear? I'm at 6.90 now so I should go to 3rd gear with a 6.83 or 7.00 in the rear?

Lol I didn't figure out the gear you are running. I ran both in 2nd and 3rd. And they didn't last a hole season. What is everyone else running?

Going to a 7.00 in the rear. top guys are using it. can't be any worse

We run a 1.68 in 2nd with a 4.11 every week, never have any problems with it. But I think running it in high keeps the heat down in transmission.

We used to run 3 speed saginaws in a street stock way back in late 1980's. We would go through one to two a season.( they were 75 bucks at junk yard) We finally started using synthetic gear oil and all problems went away. we ran a 770 over all. a couple second gear cars mostly first gear only deals. I would run a direct drive first gear only clutchless powerglide nowadays though.
