My Dad's Practice Needs a Hero

My dad is a solo GP, and his office is stuck in 1995. The filing system is a nightmare, and he refuses to learn new software. I’m a business student, and for a class project, I’m trying to create a proposal for him to hire a practice manager. The other day, a patient’s old file got mixed up with a new patient’s, and it was a total mess. I told him a manager could prevent that. I need some solid info on the scope of this role—from compliance to patient flow—to build my case. What would you say is the most important function of a practice manager in a small medical office?

I’ve seen this exact scenario. A friend’s dad ran a solo GP office with stacks of paper everywhere, and one day a patient’s old records got swapped—it was chaos. Once they brought in a practice manager, everything changed: schedules, compliance, billing, and patient flow ran smoothly. For your project, I’d say the biggest impact is having someone who keeps operations organized so mistakes like that don’t happen. I found guide for medical practice manager really clear for understanding all the responsibilities in a small office.
