Our builder suggested replacing every old window, but I'd really like to keep the original look of the property if it's possible. I've heard restoration can be a great option, although I don't know who to contact. Does anyone have recommendations for sash window restoration in London based on personal experience?
Restoring Instead of Replacing

I’d push for restoration first if the original frames are still sound — we did that on a Victorian terrace and it kept the look completely intact, plus the windows stopped rattling for the first time in years. A neighbour nearly replaced theirs, then had the sashes repaired and said it felt like the house “went back to itself.” Have a look at ambjoinery.london/windows/box-sash-windows it’s a sensible place to start when you want the period style kept right.Last edited by gwyn; 07-11-2026, 09:51 AM.
