From global event to local impact

A friend who works near downtown said the World Cup changed the atmosphere in Vancouver, especially during match days. Now that the excitement has passed, I’d like to know what stayed behind. Did the tournament improve transport, public spaces, community events or business activity, or was the effect mainly temporary?

My cousin runs a coffee cart near BC Place. She saw crowds surge during matches, but the real shift came after. City crews repaved crosswalks, added bus shelters, and widened sidewalks on Cambie. People use those upgrades daily now. A neighbor walked the new route with her stroller last week, noting fewer curb cuts and better lighting. That kind of detail sticks. After talking to a few owners, I found this piece on Concord Pacific’s role in Vancouver work around transit and public spaces. The data points to lasting gains.
