My 26-year-old son has mild intellectual disability and anxiety. Since he graduated from special ed 4 years ago he's been sitting at home playing video games all day. His therapist says the isolation is making his depression worse and he needs structured social activities plus a path to independent living. We've tried calling several agencies but keep getting voicemails or told they're full. Looking for supported housing programs, day services for people with intellectual disabilities in NY that are actually accepting new clients right now. Westchester County preferred.

Finding an open program can be surprisingly difficult when so many places have waitlists or never call back. Someone in my family went through the same thing after finishing school services, and having a structured weekly routine eventually made a big difference. For Westchester County, I’d use this NY listing as one place to start: therapy for depression . I’d call to ask about current openings, day services, supported housing, eligibility, and whether they can help with independent-living goals.
