Lots of head bolts and all studs will leak without some good sealer on the ends. I make my motor builder teflon tape then seal them because the sealer (3b) everyone claims to use is almost always letting one or two leak.
Even at that when I ran head studs I had to put a sealer in the radiator on break in of those motor to seal the studs.
When I break in a new motor I pull the valve covers fast to check for water leaking into the oil. Its easy to spot.
