    Breaking Fuel pump

I have broken the springs in 2 brand new mechanical fuel pumps in the last 2 months. I have run this engine for the last 3 years, nothing new, same cam, same fuel pump push rod. Never had the problem till this year. Same brand pump I have always run, same pump that others I know are running. Any ideas???

What brand pump? Sounds like a pump issue to me. I dont see how the use of a fuel pump could cause a spring to break.

Renegade.. Yeah I know, cheap. But, I have guys I know using the the same kind, with no problems, and I have broke 2 in a row. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy one of those billet piston types.

What are your pump needs. Im currently switching my pumps over.

Ive got quite a pile of pumps here on the shelf I wont be using.

Im going to a 12-327-25 its 172gph and needs no regulator.

Ive got a lightly used 12-327-11 and 12-327-20 here on the shelf as well as 2 carters.

Something thats good enough for methanol. That I can put -10 inlet fitting and an -8 outlet.

I dont know anything about methanol.

I think you need a pump with bypass or at least a regulator with by pass to keep from vapor locking etc?

None of mine will work for you as far as I know.

Thanks, already have the bypass. Just need a pump that will pump 120GPH. Found a guy on Ebay that has a brand new billet piston style pretty cheap.

There were several versions of the piston pump. some are good and some are junk. I would not buy a used one as you may end up with one of the ones that leaks and burn the car down. We got one new and found out in the shop that it leaked. It would drip about a quart a day while NOT running. It almost had fuel run out almost constantly while running.

Our Race Pumps work well, but in most cases you need the thick gasket (insulator)

                  Unless they changed them

                  Minimal rebuild cost

Ours is on gas with a regulator, but the instructions recommended a bypass set up for methanol, I believe

I wouldn't recomend the race pump for methanol, had nothing but problems with them . I switched to race gas and use cv billet pumps now, but gave one of the racepumps to a buddy running a BG bypass valve system( i always ran the racepumps bypass regulator), it still wouldn't work right, pressure fluctuating all the time! I would give the procam pump a try, I know a few that use it and are real happy with it, plus you wouldn't need to change anything else!

Thanks guys. Decided on a Barry Grant diaphragm Alky pump. Too many negatives on the billet pump for methanol.
