5.7 vs 6.0 rods??

Ive had people tell me that the 6.0 rod is the better choice when building a motor....

I guess im wondering why, and does the 5.7 rod have any good qualities or does it depend on what size engine you build???

the engine in mind would be a 383...

the differance or "gain" is the longer rod has a longer "dwell" time than the 5.7 wich has the ability to give you more torque but it is only part of the package the rods alone wont give you much but combine the long rods with a cam ground for them heads with the right size valves for them and then you have something. if you are building a 383 and already have a cam and heads then stick with the 5.7 because you will be able to use of the shelf pistons wich are way cheaper and are usally availible in singles when needed.

The pistons would stick out of the block .300

You would have to run a head gasket .300" thick. Good luck finding them.

If you are building from scratch and using decent parts, there is no cost difference between the 2.
Use the long rod if you are really turning the engine up high. Otherwise the short rod seems to work well on short tracks. Seems like the shorter rod makes just a little more torque in the midrange.
