3.250 stroke crank in 400 block

I'm putting together a 400 block with a 3.250 stroke crank, to meet the rules definition of a 350... What's the deal with "spacer bearings"? Can these be safely run in a lower power, 6500rpm and under 380HP? The off the shelf chranks only seem to come in 350 mains, I'd prefer a 400 main crank from the start, but the cost associated with a custom forged steel shaft is out of the budget.

hey i run the same crank in my 350 block with the spacer bearings and turn it 8000+ with no problems on a dome top piston with huge compression, i am not sure with the 400 block what you would run into but it sounds like you be ok to me.

Makes 352 put long rods in it turn the hell out of it.Bearing spacers are no problem just make sure bearing clearnces are good.

if i'm not mistaken you can get "thick" bearings that are 1 piece if it worries ya

I have this combo with a stock bore size.I'm using a cast 307 crank.long 6 1/4 long rods and 18 degree je pistons.

That stroke will need to be able to turn! I mean around 8,000 to 8,500.. The only reason I am stating this is make sure that the top end you put on this can handle it.. Like this combo will kill you if you have to run a non mechanical cam.. So if your running a hyd cam this is a bad mistake.. Also make sure you run at least a 6.125 or longer rod.. If you only plan on running 6800 I think I would run something like a 3.625 standard bore.. You will see better results in that rpm range.. However if you can turn it that much you will love the 3.250 in the 400.. Just sayin!

We had a 377" together in a 509 400 block and used the spacers. 585 HP and turned it 8200. Ran it for 3 seasons and sold it. Never gave us any trouble...
