What are the pros and cons to running a 418 with 18* pistons and brodix 10x heads(23*)

There is no pros. The con is that the valve pockets are in the wrong place and wrong angle.

Even if they were cut? Why do people do this?

You never know whether the pistons can be flycut to fit the heads until you put them in a milling machine and cut one. Most pistons can not be cut that much without cutting through them but you might be lucky. As to your question, why do people do this.Do what?

Ok. So what should I do if I just bought a motor like that?

Check the parts to see if they are what you were told. I have seen several bought "race" engine that were nothing more than a factory 350 with a cam or less!

If the valves clear the pockets in the pistons and the domes clear the chamber, everything should be fine. This is an engine thats already together or is in peices?

Already together. I've talked to the engine builder and he says the motor is what it's supposed to be.

We ran the Ross 99480(18*) for several years, when the Vortec heads were fairly new, and there just weren't any piston domes made to fit their heart shaped combustion chamber.
We had alot of success with that package, but were in a class that only allowed .520 lift

Here are some Ross says work in either 18* or 23* heads

You are dealing with something that was cobbled together by another engine builder and there isn't much you can do but take his word that everything is ok.Either that or take it apart and redo it right.

Ive used 18 degree pistons with 23 heads before just check clearances. But they where ebay used pistons that i got cheap. If you look around you can put a engine together with goods parts pretty cheap.
