    carb question

i recently bought a 406 aluminum headed roller motor. when picking it up i asked the guy what carb he ran on it. he said a 1100 c&s aresol carb, which he also has for sale. this sounds HUGE to me. but this motor was ran with this carb and guy was very successful. it was dyno'd with this carb at 630 horse. im pretty sure im gonna buy was wondering what the pros and cons where to running this carb.

That is a lot of carb. Check your rules. Some places...infact almost every track I know of has cfm maximums.

Depends on the max rpm but a 950 should be plenty

When its dryslick this carb would probably smooth out the torque curve for favorable acceleration qualitys! Just sayin!

Bigger than most run and sounds too big for 630 HP.
I believe in over camming or over carbing a motor to tone down the lower RPM HP and Torque. New drivers, slick stop and go tracks or working on a tricky suspension benefits until the program gets up to speed and you need everything you can get.

We run a 1.59" venturi Braswell 3 circuit carb that is right at 1,000 cfm on a 422" SB2.2 that makes right at 820 hp and it is lazy on the bottom end compared to our 750 Holley with an 850 base plate. A 750 is 1.37" on the venturi. On a bigger momentum track the big Braswell is OK, but on stop and go type deal that can handle the torque, the 750 pulls so much harder out of the turn...If it really flows 1,100 cfm, that's a lot of carb for only 630 hp...imo
