Ever have a rotor break on a new motor? I think it is the oil pump causing it. The pump is a Melling Select 10550, it felt a little "tight" when I installed it, but figured it was because it was new. The car started and idled/ran good. the timing held steady. The first lap under load and W-O-T is all of sudden misfired, back fired, etc. Took off the car and the rotor is broke.

not sure? i would check to make sure the striker didn make contact w the post and see what kinda clearance you got there. maybe the rotor screws backed out a little? not sure how the oil pump w break it. did the dist. shaft or gear break? or just rotor? -
timing off
sounds like your timing went away. did the dist. move ??? could be your ignition box gone bad. also saw this one time when a guy went from a locked dist. to a non locked dist. set his timing at 34 not realizing when he reved it up it was gonna throw a bunch more timing in it. when a motor bucks this bad to break the rotor i would also be nervous aboout a bent rod or other things. not trying to scare you but if it was the timing gone that bad it really puts a strain on everything. its the sudden jolt to the engine that slaps the mechanical advance in the dist. hard enough to break the rotor. just another thing to look at.Comment

Don't see a dist breaking the rotor, seen a lot of street cars with the rotor broke in them.Comment
