Does anyone brace the tailshaft (long tails) of their Falcon, Berts or Brinns?

Yup sure do. And I am the only one in the pits doing it. When I got the car I noticed the bell housing was cracked in a few spots. I marked the spots with a Sharpee and made this mount out of flat steel, 2 muffler clamps and 2 hockey pucks. The pucks I cut into cubes. That back rubber in the picture has part of the logo of the puck on it. It kind of looks hollow, but its not.
2 seasons and never had an issue with the mount, and the bell housing is holding up good.Attached FilesCrew Chief "Tip of the day":
Most handling problems can be solved by adjusting the screw-ball. It can be difficult to fine tune at times. Explaining yourself loudly and striking it on top of the helmet with a dead blow hammer usually works well.

Ingenuity at its finest. Love it!!!!!!!!!! From what I'm hearing most guys around here dont. The guy I bought my falcon off of (used parts dealer) said to brace it. He then showed me a falcon tranny off of a crate model that was not braced. Had 2 of 4 ears busted off of it.

I believe all the major trans manfacturers recommend a rubberized rear mount. With the amount the chassis bounces up and down and shakes, it doesnt make any sense to let a 60+ pound trans hang from an aluminum bellhousing.Crew Chief "Tip of the day":

If you run front motor mounts and any form of a mid mount, I believe everyone agrees to let the trans hang.....Originally posted by joedoozer View PostI believe all the major trans manfacturers recommend a rubberized rear mount. With no mid mount you CAN run a rear trans mount.

We run a DLM with a Brinn for 4 years and we have ran it off the bellhousing with no support and have not had any cracks or issues. I do agree that a lot of people forget about the Allen behind the starter and you will see the bellhousing crack right there. If you run a midplate, I really think you are fine. I know of 1 guy that ran a rubber tranny mount with his Bert and he ended up cracking the tail shaft housing...I think the rubber mount wasn't flexing enough and the chassis was moving too much for the mount to give...He ran on a consistently hooked up heavy track and really worked his chassis hard...

On a rough track or using a factory bellhousing I would run one. Never had an issue hurting anything with one but I have seen cracked aluminum and Mag BERT bellhousings on rough tracks without one even with ALL the bolts in place. If you are running a stock bellhousing they were NEVER designed to hold the trans weight or the torque that even a limited late model engine puts out and they will fail. I guess it all depends on if you are willing to chance on running over your $1500+ trans or not.
