brand new 377 broke the timing chain after 16 laps

Flat tappet cams are cast iron.They break very easy.I've had them come in from UPS broken.Thats the reason Comp Cam uses FedEx.

Well, just left the engin builders shop and the cam bolts backed out and let the top gear come off the cam.. i dont know if he didnt tighten them down, lock tight them, or fold the tabs down on the lock deal that locks them in place, but either way, he is going to make good on his word and fix whatever is broke.... didnt mean to jump the gun and blame it on a broken timing chain, but that was my first thought... thanks for everybodys input in this whole subject.....

Sounds like a good guy to make it right. He clearly didnt bend the tabs...

I had a wire lock on a je piston puke out a pin first night on a all new most expensive motor I ever built and my guy to this day wants to argue it wasnt what happened first...

Parrot, thats exactly what happend... the lock plate was on there, but not bent agenst the head of the bolts... we got lucky cause it only bent 3 valves, 2 ex and 1 in, how we got that lucky, i will never know.. but yeah, as parrot said, people coming in and out and the phone ringing, it just got over looked, but hes already got it done, so im putting it back in today and hoping mother nature gives us a break here tomorrow.... thaks again for everyones input, it was a pretty stressfull time waiting to find out what was wrong with it because i dont have a spare and didnt have the money to start over right now.... but he was good on his word and hopefully the rest of the season goes smooth!!!

If it was me,i would stick with that engine builder.He made a mistake, he knows he did,and he fixed the problem.We all make mistakes once in a while but it's a he!! of a lot harder to find the honest guy that admits his problem and makes it right.If he has a reputation of every other engine coming apart,then that's another story but it don't sound like that's the deal here.Good luck!

Absolutely on that being a Heckuva Guy to make good on his mistake keep us posted on how she runs and if it turns out well which it seems to be use that guy's name everywhere you can( if he's agreeable) These folks are hard to find

The guys name is Tom Wahler ( i think i spelled the last name right) and his shop is called the engin shop... he is in southeast mo, about 75 miles south of st. Louis.. he builds and freshens several motors a year, anything from pure street motors to sprint car motors and everything in between... he also does machine work for allot of the local garages in our area... all of his motors i have seen have held up very well, and as everyone knows, a motor is only as good as the parts you put into it... so if you let him build a motor with the parts he wants to put into it, it will definatly be a great peice... i know my next one will definatly be done by him... he does all his machine work in house, so nothing has to be shipped off to be worked on... his phone number is 573-562-7390, great guy to talk to and full of good information... thanks again for everyones feedback.... my name is Nathan Gibson, just in case anyone was wondering....
