Ford Solenoid (?)

On the Ford style solenoids, is there a wrong way to hook them up if they are not marked? I have two here at the shop and I realized that when I wired one of them up, it is backwards from what I had it in last years car. The wire from the push button is on the same small stud but my 12V in and 12V out to the starter are swapped. It still clicks when I push the button and the 12V side that goes to the starter lights up a test light only when the button is pushed so that all seems "fine". The engine isn't in so I don't know if it will start it OK or not. Thanks Folks.............
