saginaw and long yoke

What is it you have to do to the 3 speed saginaw to make it accept the long 8 inch yoke without bottoming out?

Some of them I have had to have splines cut into the shaft. Some of them were fine. I would run with about three inches of yoke in the trans.

I ran into that problem last year when I went to a bar car, took out the tail shaft and brother ground it down with a grinder about 3 inches up from the end of the splines.
