I know its not a racing question but, I picked up an 86 suburban K20 with a 350. The price was great and the motor and trans had been rebuilt couple years ago by the previous owner. He was selling cus couldnt take back to Tenn.
Upon takin to races loaded car on back this thing has ZERO power! Drives great as long as theres no incline. Went 10mph up hill in first, no good.
So my question is: I have a pair of worked 906 vortec heads I been trying to sell for years plus an edlebrock performer RPM airgap intake (dual plane). The heads are stock valve size.
Would making this swap give me a bump in bottom end maybe even changing cam too? I know removing those smog heads alone should make it breath better but will it be enough to get this thing outta first gear pulling a hill?
Any suggestions or changes I should make to this venture? This is one of those times I wish it had the 454 lol. I even wondered if I got creative and made it a 383 but the cost factor plays there, here I have everything except gaskets and a square bore vac sec carb which ebay is great for and can rebuild it for under 100 bucks. Maybe even toss the set of headers on I have had rusting away out back and glass packs lol.

They aren't milled I only had them "trued up" so I knew that they were square when I built the motor.
