Bert tranny leaking

Our Bert is leaking and I can't find it, it only leaks while racing. I think its the vent, do I need to make it longer? What will it take to fix it if thats what it is, will I have to rethread something or can I buy a fitting? Haven't pulled it yet to see what I need but I would like to have what I need to fix it before I pull it.Thanks

our bert has a quarter or eighth inch pipe maybe 1 inch in top,or shorter,but most of the time they leak where you take the shifting leaks out.that means you have to pull it out ,clean it real good,and use the red high temp silocone.hope this helps.

How much fluid are you using in it?

Pretty close to a quart. I fill it till it comes out of plug on side, is that too much?

I just went to Bert Web site it says to fill 1/2inch from plug, looks like I've been putting too much in it. Another lesson learned about a race car. How about some idea how to clean the trans fluid off, I know degreaser or something like that, any kind of detergent?Thanks

Spray it off with Brake Kleen real good and blow dry.
Filling it until it runs out the plug won't hurt a thing.
Take a look at the underside of the racecar body,inline with the rear yoke to see if it has sprayed all over.Grab the yoke and see if there is any play in there too.Then check inside the bell housing,if you are losing a LOT of oil,it will show up.Check the side cover,and then the shifting rod area.Make sure the vent on top hasn't been knocked off by something.Roll it on it's side with the oil in it to see if any runs out the cover or front seal.You pull it out and look close,you will see where it is leaking.
If you find a seal leaking,take a close look at the bearing or bushing behind it.Usually that is why the seal failed in the first place.

We had one that we thought was leaking until we found that it was overfull. Being overfull will allow the pressure built up in the case when it is running to blow the fluid out of the breather. I would lower the fluid level to the proper amount and try it to see how it does before pulling it apart and checking seals. ALSO when you wash the car try to keep the pressure washer away from the breather as moisture getting into the trans will cause more pressure when it gets up to temp and can cause it to blow fluid out.

Thanks, going to change fluid today and fill to Bert spec and see how it does next time out. Don't know when that will be, I'm pretty much the only one working on car now and doing things I wasn't responsible for before. Thanks again with the help in the learning process.
