I recently was forced to change classes at my local track, they just decided to quit running the Pure Stock Division. But anyway, I put a MSD Digital 6AL on the car. I liked it because it had the built in Soft Touch Rev Limiter. I went out for the first time with it this weekend. I took the car out for hot laps, it made it about half of a lap before the car died. It was limiting the RPM to about 5000 in the corners, I know it is not bouncing off the chip because I turned 6200 on the backstretch. Coming off of turn 4 the car just starting running like crap. We tested everything we could think of at the track. Power was good, ground was good, ignition switch was good. No spark, car would not hit a lick. There is an LED on the top of these things that is supposed to indicate "System Status", well on mine it would be solid on for appx 2 secs, then blink 6 times then go off and never come back on. Anytime the ignition box sees the trigger, it is supposed to light up. I pushed the car off the trailer yesterday morning and hooked everything back up the way that is supposed to, and it fired right up. I jumpered the green/purple connection and was able to get spark all the way to #1 plug.
Details about the car: Brand new 358 SBC, factory GM 601 heads, Factory Small Cap HEI with everything disconnect and the white/green hooked up the purple/green (respectively).
My questions are:
Does anyone know what the LED Code mean?
How can I test the facotry magnetic pickup coil in the distributor?
Thanks for the help.
