lean at idle symptoms

Are some of the symptoms high idle, popping at low rpm, and causing blow by?

High idle and popping could be a symptom of the intake gaskets not sealing and it could be sucking air from the lifter valley. The blowby wouldn't be related unless your referring to smoke out the exhaust as blowby. Is the blowby coming out of the breathers or smoke out exhaust? Blowby out of the breathers is a ring or cylinder/piston issue.

It's a 602 and does not appear to have any sealing problems. Did compression check and all was fine. So we ruled that out. Blow by is out the breathers but not enough to cause worry. Just enough we noticed it. Popping is occuring at 3000 which is where I put it to set the timing. Without the idle adjuster on the Linkage screwed in at all it idles at 1250.

Where is a good place to start on jets with a 650 double pumper? 72 front and rear?

Back idle adjuster all the way out on linkage side, adjust idle for secondary to about 100 rpm short of target rpm. Then go back to linkage side and adjust the primary idle to your desired rpm. That should fix it, unless something is wrong. Then you might have to do a rebuild to fix it.

Ok. But is 72 a goodplace to start on jets front and rear?
