i was wondering if anybody knew if i can use a 395ci piston 6in rod on a 3.480 crank i got them setting next to my 350 6 in rod pistons and it doesnt look like their is much of a diffrance? the pins look like their in the same spot

so if i use a 6.200 rod it makes it about 2 thousands off and i can make that up in decking right ? how would i know the compression of the piston is it still the same as what the sheet says on it ?Originally posted by parrot69777Compression height on the 3.48 pistons should be 1.260 and the 395 pistons should be 1.062. If you put the 395 pistons on a 3.48 stroke with a 6" rod....the top of the piston would be around .200 from the deck depending on deck height. If you used a 6.200 rod you would be almost perfect.
Another way to tell what I am talking about is to slide a wrist pin half way out of one of the 3.48 pistons and put the a 395 piston on the other half and compare the difference in height of the two.

alright i stuck a 6.200 rod on it and put it on the crank in the block its really close to 0 deck im gonna take it to the machine shop and have them make up the diffrance. thank you for the helpOriginally posted by parrot69777Two thousandth is .002. Parrot69777, hate to correct your math, you are right in that two thousandths is .002, but two hundredths is .02, NOT .200...two tenths is .200, huge difference
