    balancer and cooling questions

We have put two performance products balamcers on our motor and both of them have came apart. Have anyone have this happen before? Also what is the best balancer to get? Motor is a internally balance 383 all iron on gas motor. Also how long can you run a radiator before replacing? We have like a good 3 seasons on the radiator. Motor has been getting warm lately and we haven't changed anything major. Last question our new carb came from the carb builder with a secondary powervalve plug in it. Is this ok and what should the jet split be between the primary and secondaries. Thanks

The Professional Products, Performance Products balancers are junk. Go with an ATI, BHJ, Powerbond in that order. For the running warm situation, check the radiator tubes for swelling if they look good, pull the Rad, gently drop it on the floor from about 8" high to knock the dirt and rocks out of it, and then soak it in soapy water in a kiddie pool or similar to break up the mud and dirt film on fins and tubes.

x2 on the Powerbond. Check your ignition timing also with a good balancer. It may have been slow and heating the motor up.

Haven't had anything besides an ATI on our engines for a number of years now. Just put a new ATI with the aluminum hub on our engine at the last rebuild...I agree with the soaking in a Kiddie pool and then rinsing out...You will be amazed at the amount of dirt and crud that will come out...

Thanks guys what ATI is the right one. What do you want to look for in a balancer for a superstock car. Am i looking for a steel hub one? We turn no more then 7800 rpm.

Also any help on jetting or carbs everyone i talk to tell me they run a power valve on the secondary

We put a power valve block off on our carb. We had to increase the jet size by 5 from what we had. So if you're running 79's, you can put 84's in and shold be in the ball park. I would read the plugs before and after the change just to be sure. A dyno would be the best bet on the initial tuning of the carb and then fine tune at the track by reading the plugs. I'm sure there are others that have more experience than I do, but that's what we did.

We have ran the steel hub before, the builder just changed us over to the aluminum hub as we had to replace the ATI...The steel hub would be fine. Just get the diameter that you want and an adjustable pointer and your good...
