Billet steel flat tappet setups are very expensive,not just the camshaft but also the special lifters that you have to run.The only company I could get to grind me a billet steel flat tappet cam was Bullet.

LSM out of Michigan can build you any billet core thay you would like. As mentioned above, they are expensive. I have a LSM with DLC lifters that I just tore down. It ran an entire season and the cam and lifters do not have a mark on them. If you go this route; ensure that you have the camshaft micro polished.

All the Sprint Cup cars run them but most use a 60-65mm core

If it's long term reliability your after, we had Tony Barker do us up a Nitrided Comp cam and Crower Cool Face lifters, ant they're on year 3, with no visible wear whatsoever.

Set it and forget it valve lash also, and we're over .600 lift

Can DLC lifters be run on a nitrided cam? I do not know. I would be concerned with the lifters being to hard in comparison to the camshaft.

Yes they can but remember that nitriding a cast iron flat tappet cam core only makes it harder not stronger.Breaking the cast iron core by being able to run higher spring pressures becomes even more problematic.
