    How long on oil?

I'm wondering how long I can run my oil before a complete drain and refill on a wetsump motor? I have an 8qt pan 2qt remote filter and an oil cooler. I figure it is between 11-12 quarts total. I change the filter every 3 nights and refill to proper level. I run Schaffers Supreme 7000 20w50. Normally I go 6 nights or the equal there of in laps. Small 1/4 mile track on average 35-40 laps a night on the throttle.

I change oil midway through the season. But I run Joe Gibbs oil. I figure it can go 500 miles at Daytona it can go 250 in my car. Two years on same engine tore down by builder at the end of the year. Looked like the day it was assembled.

The semi-synthetic Gibbs oils are 300 lap oils. The full synthetic Gibbs oils are 500 lap oils. Both need a new filter every 100 laps and topped off.

Why do you say they need a new filter every 100 laps? They don't change the filter 5 times a race?

I was changing my filter every other weekend and after cutting them open I now change it when I change the oil.

Also there is a BIG difference between 500 laps on a saturday night and 500 miles.

Thats what Gibbs is saying to do. Besides you ever see the filters on the cup cars, its at least twice as big in diameter and a little bit longer. Probably has three times the filter media. Also when you add the quart of oil back it helps refire the additive package.

I would say your changing it pretty close to the right time now. I wouldnt push that oil your using past 6 nights. I have ran that and noticed its stays really clean for 3-4 nights and after 5 its starts breaking down quick.
i switched to full syth Joe Gibbs and for the last two years I change the filter after 3 nights and top off oil. Dont do an "oil change" all year. My normal season is aprox 25 nights.
