Fuel log relief?

I was talking with my motor guy yesterday. He was saying if we run a fuel log we don't need a regulator, we can just change springs inside it? Can anyone explain this for me please.

This would be for a return line on an alcohol motor.

This doesn't make sense to me. The two logs I have are empty inside. There are no springs. The regulator goes on the end to control running pressure.

Sorry, they are bypasses, not regulators.

I spent some time surfing today, and the only thing I could find was Mallory makes a log with a screw adjustable bypass built into it.

My understanding is that you want more bypass at idle, is that correct? That way you're not running super rich at idle?

I have a block mount racepumps pump.

According to most here you will need one of the racepump regulators. If not they say they will vapor lock on you when the motor is hot. I bought a racepump 3-4 years ago but rules changed and we can run belt drive so i have left it sit on the shelf.
