Bell/flywheel

So I just want to clarify any and all options before I start yanking this turd apart again.

I have a Bert bell, and a I'm pretty sure a Brinn flywheel. Idler gear won't engage the flywheel.

Is this most likely my issue? Anything else to look for?

Push out the idler see how close it is coming to the flywheel.

Brinn flywheel is bigger in diamter than a Bert. I don't think you can interchange bells and flywheels. Bert goes with bert

I cant move the idler very far before it hits the flywheel. And it's nowhere near meshing with the flywheel, like it's too large as Merc mentioned. I have a Brinn Bell. Gonna swap it out tomorrow. I'll post results.

So, I yank out the trans, pull off the Bert bell, slap in the Brinn bell that I have, and, WooHoo! idler gear engages the flywheel perfectly. Success!!! I proceed to install the trans, and THUNK, shaft bottoms out on crank. The Brinn bell is 1/2" shallower than the Bert. WTF!!???

Any thoughts? Spacers? Massive amounts of alcohol?

Are you running a mid plate or mid chassis rear motor mounts?

Get a Bert transmission, Bert flywheel and a Bert bellhousing OR get a Brinn transmission, Brinn flywheel and a Brinn bellhousing. Brinn also uses a shorter driveshaft than a Bert.

Same combination as Stuck In Reverse...We run a Bert bellhousing, bert coupler and a Brinn tranny...You have to make sure all matches in the bellhousing. We like the Bert coupler and ring gear as it is 2 piece vs. the one piece Brinn which is expensive to replace in comparison...

alot of people run brinn(trans) and bert bell's/flywheels. Myself included. its the flywheel part that gets hairy, bert flywheel w/ bert bell and brinn flywheel w/ brinn bell. But i have no clue what keeks issue is

I'm running a Bert ballspline, with a Bert bell, and Brinn flywheel. Idler wouldn't mesh. So I swapped out for a spare Brinn bell. Idler works slick as #$%^! However, now my Tranny input shaft bottoms against the crank because the Brinn bell isn't as deep as the bert was.

I understand that. It would just seem simpler to run everything matching.

I agree. I was just trying to work with what I have, and still make it out for Saturday. This low budget thing is tough.
