You're 100% right keeks. According to what I found, a Brinn is 6.040" deep and a Bert/Falcon is 6.290" deep.
If I were going to fix this on the low budget, I would get a second .250" thick alum mid-plate, cut the ears off and use it as a shim. Preferably an old used one. Just make sure the bellhousing bolts are long enough to accommodate the extra thickness.
